Sex Therapy

For individuals and couples who are seeking a more fulfilling sex life.

What is Sex Therapy?

Sex therapy is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on sexual issues, sexuality, love, intimacy, gender and relationships. Sex is not typically something that you can talk about in a medical or even mental health setting. Both clients and even providers can feel uncomfortable or ill equipped to talk about sex. In Sex therapy, all aspects of sex and sexuality can be explored without concerns or fears of judgment.

Why Sex Therapy?

Our sexuality lies at the core of our identities as human beings. Yet we often have had very few, if any, spaces to talk about, learn about or share about sex or sexuality. Most of the time if it is addressed, it is typically about negative consequences or risks such as pregnancy and STI’s. Pleasure or sexual health is hardly, if ever mentioned. We unfortunately live in a sex negative culture that has passed on minimal and damaging messages about sex. This leads to many adults, couples, and families avoiding talking about most sexual matters. We often don’t realize how important our sexuality is until something goes wrong. Many individuals and couples do not talk about or share about their experiences with sex. Individuals and couples seeking sex therapy are often dealing with distress, emotional pain, and confusion. You may be feeling stuck, lonely, ashamed or scared. You may be thinking that something is wrong with you, or you are abnormal in some way. You may even have fears of being judged, misunderstood, or rejected. It’s hard dealing with sex when worries or fears about being broken or “not normal” show up. It can get even harder when both you and your partner do not know how to talk about or share about sex.

I want you to know that you are not broken. And you no longer have to suffer in this alone. I offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental and open space to allow your most vulnerable parts to show up and finally be seen and acknowledged.

I can help guide and support you as you learn how to feel more confident in your body and as a lover. And not only will we address your concerns or “problems” but we will also focus on how to feel empowered and embrace more pleasure in your life.

Sex, intimacy and love are such huge parts of our lives. Whether you are partnered or single, wishing you could be more sexual or do not enjoy sex at all— I honor and celebrate your unique sexuality and will support you on this journey to understanding, pleasure, and self discovery.

Jennifer Walker, LMFT, Sex Therapist

My journey began at my traineeship in graduate school where I began my clinical work at the LGBTQ Center in Long Beach, California. I worked with both teens and adults to explore a range of issues within sexuality, gender identity, and sexual orientation. I felt called to work with this population because I wanted to offer a safe space for them to explore and understand their own unique identities away from the the shame and rejection they had often felt at home and in society. In 2019 I worked for a Certified Sex Therapist and continued to build my skills and interests in the realm of sex, sexuality and gender. In 2020 I decided to start pursuing my own certification and have received training through the Sexual Health Alliance.

I enjoy this work because it has become clear to me that many individuals within our society (myself included!) did not receive proper education and knowledge regarding sex and sexual health. We were taught about risks such as pregnancy and STIs, and for the most part, that was about it. Most of us were never taught the benefits or anything positive related to sex. Our experiences with sex are often kept quiet, hidden and rarely discussed, which leads to a lot of feelings of shame, insecurity, and guilt. My mission is to help individuals destigmatize sex so they can start to understand themselves fully and embrace what is uniquely their own sexuality without feelings of shame, guilt or fear.

“Instead of looking to the other to meet your needs, if you want to reignite your love life, you must take on the responsibility of your own desire.”
